About June
Created by Mark 6 years ago
June was born on 14th April 1947 at her Grandmother's house in
Willenhall before moving to New Invention when she was 8 years old living with
her Mom, her dad, and her sister.
June was very close to 2 of her cousins Cynthia (Deceased) and Sheila
and as they were all similar ages they had a very close bond being nicknamed
'The Ovaltinies' as children.
June attended Barcroft Girls School in Willenhall and as soon as she
finished school she went straight in to work at Josiah Parkes lock factory in
Willenhall.
At the age of 20 June gave birth to Mark her only Son, Mark turned 50
years of age on the 23rd May unfortunately June was not here to celebrate this
milestone as she passed away just 1 week earlier.
At the age of 21 in 1968 June started working at Lowe and Fletchers in
Willenhall, and although some days she hated being there, it must have held
something special for her as she worked there until the day it closed down.
It was here at Lowe and Fletchers where June met Colin (another reason
why Lowe and Fletchers was so special) they both worked there for what seemed
like a lifetime but although they had a friendship love never blossomed until
later on, 26 years later on to be more precise, when accidentally meeting
at the "clocking off" machine, that they dared to arrange a date.
Having said that when it did blossom it was special. For a while they
were secret lovers, sneaking around like teenagers so that work colleagues and
family knew nothing of their new found love and happiness.
However, when it was all revealed the love and happiness grew into
something most special. June made Colin happy, Colin made June happy (They
could also quite easily wind each other up too) and they were always hand in
hand wherever they went, right until the very end June was still holding out
her hand for Colin to happily hold.
June and Colin married in Walsall on the 4th November 1995 and held
their wedding reception at the Friendly hotel in Walsall, the friendly hotel
became a regular place to go for June and Colin where they met lots of new
friends and regularly met with Colin's family, Ruby, Veronica and Audrey a lot
of these will be in attendance today to say goodbye. June and Colin also
celebrated their 1st year of marriage back at the friendly hotel.
Colin took June to places in the UK that she had never been to before,
June, Colin and 'Skip' (The dog) travelled the length and breadth (Photographs
at home of the 3 of them at both Lands end and John O'Groats) of the country
and have shared so many happy memories together. Their most memorable and
favourite places were Teignmouth in Devon. Breen in Somerset and Blackpool.
June only went abroad twice with Colin, both times to Majorca once with Audrey
and her family and once with Mark and Fay. Going abroad surprised us all as
June always said, "Yow ay gettin me on a pissin' aeroplane".
June and Colin also took several holidays in the UK with Mark and Fay.
June was always very proud of Mark and was so happy when he met Fay and she
loved nothing more than seeing them both happy together.
Considering the miles that June did in cars (With Colin or Mark driving)
she never chose to get behind the wheel herself. However, you would never know
because she would always be telling both of them how to drive, who to watch out
for, and on occasions the giving the verbal abuse and hand gestures to other
road users where ever she felt the need.
June had a way with words and I think that everyone will all have some
memories of some of June's phrases and sayings, she was one in a million.
Thoughtful, loving, kind, generous and funny. She had a heart of pure gold, but
you would not want to upset her as she would let you know if you did........
The memories of those holidays both at home and abroad will stay with us
all forever.
Eating out became the 'norm' for June, Colin and Veronica. Mark often
referred to June as needing training to use her own cooker as it hadn't been
used for a period of time. places like The Colliers, Old Wyrley Hall and The Star
became firm favourites and also places where more friendships were made.
June never really knew how many people loved her and cared for her she
touched more hearts than she could ever imagine.
On a more serious note, for the last 16 years June has been dogged by
ill health. Having overcome bowel cancer, June then had an ongoing battle with
malignant melanomas (Skin Cancer). Throughout this horrific ordeal, June, with
Colin by her side, faced the many problems head on. Once again showing
determination, courage and strength of character. During this most difficult of
times, Colin was there, holding June's hand, their love shining even brighter
than ever.
During the last months of
her life she was getting daily visits from the nurses, the nurses fell in love
with June and always admired her attitude. As time went on the nurses were
fighting between themselves as to who would be going to see 'Our Juney' as she
got named by the nurses. She really touched the hearts of so many people.
